New role for Terry

Senator Terry Leyden was elected vice-chairman of the Joint Committee on European Affairs at a meeting in Leinster House on Tuesday.

  Senator Leyden, a former Minister of State and TD, was proposed for the role by Deputy Sean Haughey. He defeated Deputy Bernard Durkan (Fine Gael) by seven votes to three.

  Directly after his election Senator Leyden was congratulated by the Chairperson – Deputy Michael Healy-Rae – and by the Minister for European Affairs, Deputy Dara Murphy.
