Roscommon Drama Group recently announced their new spring production with performances at Roscommon Arts Centre from Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th April. This time around the group has decided to produce three one-act plays each night bringing the audience on a journey from tragedy to comedy in one short evening. Entitled ‘Cecily’, ‘Joining The Club’ and ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’, these three short plays cover just about every emotion in life from tragic heartache, frustration and despair in ‘Cecily’ to secrets, deceit and surprise in ‘Joining The Club’ and finally chaos and hilarity in ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’. Beginning the evening, we follow the story of Cecily, destined to spend her life in a wheelchair following an accident and the failing relationship between her mother and aunt. As tensions mount and emotions become frayed, the audience becomes caught in the passion of the family dreams and secrets that they share – the most heartbreaking of all concerning Cecily. A gripping, masterfully written play that is sure to haunt you. In the next one-act of the evening, a home test has just confirmed that Jenny, a successful career woman, is unexpectedly pregnant and ‘Joining the Club’. She decides that tonight is the night to reveal this fact to her husband Tom. Unfortunately, it seems that Tom has some startling news of his own which he wants to share with his wife … And finally a one-act play to end the evening on a light-heated note ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’. Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is in trouble. Their membership is almost non-existent with audience numbers not much better and if they don’t come up with some rent money soon they’re going to be thrown out. Together they cook up a plan to pull the audiences in, thus beginning a chaotic and hilarious build-up to the finale of an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama at the arts centre.
