A new grant aid scheme for the repair or replacement of septic tanks is to be introduced by Minister Eoghan Murphy.
Senator Maura Hopkins outlined details: “To avail of this scheme, the treatment system must have been inspected under the EPA’s National Inspection Plan and an advisory notice must have been issued.
“A means test will no longer be applied. The level of grant aid support is being increased to 85% of the total eligible cost of the installation/upgrade or €5,000 (whichever amount is less)”.
The Fine Gael Senator said that the changes to this new septic tank scheme will be beneficial for many householders across Roscommon and Galway.
“I am concerned that homeowners who identify issues with their septic tanks cannot avail of the grants scheme to fix the problem and protect water sources. I have raised this issue with Minister Eoghan Murphy TD”.
Senator Hopkins said that the new scheme is in the final stages of development and exact qualifying criteria will be available in the coming weeks.
