As RosFM prepares itself for operating solely on a voluntary basis, the radio station’s board of management has called for more volunteers.
From June 1st, the station will operate without state funding after Pobal decided to withdraw its annual grant of €106,000 from the broadcaster from May 31st because of “sustainability problems” and “financial viability issues”.
However, Bernie Kearney, the chairman of RosFM’s board, said that there was a determination to keep the station in operation.
He said that 30 people attended a meeting of volunteers last Thursday.
“They were all adamant they were going to come and keep the station on the air five days a week and hopefully extend that, with new volunteers, to seven days a week later in the year,” Mr. Kearney said.
He said that new streams of income were being sought, including commercial advertising.
Anyone with queries in that regard, or who is interested in becoming a volunteer at the station, should contact RosFM on 090-6628161 or Mr. Kearney on 086-6000755 or Matt Rogers, the current manager, on 086-8488792.
