Health Minister Simon Harris has confirmed that a proposal for a new Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at Roscommon Hospital has now been agreed between HSE Estates and the Saolta University Health Care Group.
Deputy Denis Naughten said that a new project brief for the CSSD at Roscommon Hospital will now be progressed to design stage in 2019.
Deputy Naughten said: “I understand that the revised design brief will be submitted from the Saolta Hospital Group to the HSE within the coming days and I expect there will be further progress on this matter following a meeting of a HSE property steering group on 13th November”. Welcoming the news, Senator Frank Feighan said that Minister Harris has confirmed to him that the project brief will be submitted shortly.
“Based on my discussions with Minister Harris, I am confident this project brief will be progressed to design stage as quickly as possible next year”.
Senator Feighan added: “We have a current situation where the sterilisation of some reusable invasive devices at Roscommon Hospital is being outsourced to another hospital.
“I have repeatedly highlighted the need to put a long-term solution in place but I am pleased that there is clear evidence this project is being advanced.
“I will continue to work extremely hard to ensure that we have this new CSSD in place as soon as possible”.
