New blow for Hospital after ‘Poor’ hygiene rating

Roscommon County Hospital has been included amongst the bottom nine hospitals in the country in the latest independent hygiene audit, the results of which were published on Tuesday.   The survey was carried out by the Health Information and Quality Authority and a comprehensive report has been published on every hospital surveyed. The report on Roscommon County Hospital extends to 36 pages.   Fifty-one hospitals were surveyed in total. No hospital in the country reached a ‘Very good’ hygiene rating. Seven hospitals achieved a ‘Good’ rating while another thirty-five hospitals were rated as being ‘Fair.’    However nine hospitals, including Roscommon County Hospital,  received a ‘poor’ rating. Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe was also rated in the bottom nine, i.e. the ‘Poor’ category.  In the words of the report those hospitals which fell into  the ‘Poor’ category require significant improvement.    The assessors’ comments on hospital in the ‘Poor’ category included ‘A risk of cross-contamination exists
