The HAC (Hospital Action Committee) has expressed concern that a new 50-bedded unit at the Sacred Heart Hospital which was planned to be completed by the end of 2021 could be delayed by as much as three years.
Cllr. Valerie Byrne says she is concerned that it may not be completed until 2024.
Cllr. Byrne said that in a letter to the Hospital Action Committee in October 2016, Minister for Health Simon Harris had outlined his commitment to a new Community Nursing Home at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Roscommon by 2021.
“In 2016 the Minister’s letter stated that the Sacred Heart project was at appraisal stage, the first step in the process” she said.
Cllr. Byrne continued: “The Sacred Heart Hospital is one of our fundamental health services in the county and we must ensure that these improvements are made in a timely manner”.
The project will involve replacing 50 existing beds and include refurbishment and upgrade of some of the hospital to standards required by HIQA.
Cllr. Byrne stated that the HAC will be raising this matter with the Minister at their next meeting with him.
