Naughten targets MRSA

A senior staff nurse in each hospital ward should be appointed to take full responsibility for all aspects of hygiene as a first step in tackling MRSA, according to Deputy Denis Naughten. The Fine Gael Frontbench Spokesman said that hospital acquired infections must be tackled under three main headings – hygiene, accountability and hospital capacity – in order to keep patients safe from hospital bugs. "MRSA, along with other superbugs, is the biggest threat to patient safety in our hospitals and other healthcare settings," he said. ‘We in Fine Gael want to see patients protected by robust systems, proper hygiene and clear lines of accountability."
