Naughten seeks meeting with Drumm

Local TD Denis Naughten has sought a meeting with Prof. Brendan Drumm in relation to the proposed downgrading of services at Roscommon County Hospital. ‘I have been in contact with Prof. Drumm’s office this week seeking a meeting with him regarding the HSE plans for the transfer of in-patient surgery from Roscommon County Hospital to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe,’ stated Deputy Naughten. Speaking following a public meeting on the issue organised by Fine Gael, which was attended by he party’s health spokesperson, Dr. James Reilly, Deputy Naughten added: ‘I feel that it is important that I would be afforded the opportunity to discuss this matter with him, particularly in light of the HSE’s failure to brief either the members of Roscommon County Council or the public on this issue, which has led to confusion and annoyance. ‘My request for a meeting has been acknowledged by the CEO’s office and I hope that today’s (Thursday’s) protest by the people of Roscommon prior to Prof. Drumm’s meeting with consultants from the hospital will seek to reinforce the message that the downgrading of services at our hospital is unacceptable to the people of Roscommon.’
