Minister Denis Naughten confirmed last week that over €42,000 has been allocated for vital life-saving equipment for first responders and voluntary groups in County Roscommon under the CLÁR programme.
He said: “Roscommon Civil Defence, which is one of the most active units in the country, has received €25,778 to support volunteer members in their work as they continue to provide a valuable service to the county. Lough Ree Sub Aqua Search & Rescue Unit has been allocated almost €5,000 to purchase a much-needed new trailer, which is very welcome.
“Meanwhile, €11,000 has been allocated for investing in defibrillators to local first responders and community groups. Defibrillators can mean the difference between life and death in an emergency situation so this funding is hugely significant and will help to ensure defibrillators are in every school, community hall, sports clubs, and Church and ultimately within easy reach in an emergency so that lives can be saved”.
Fine Gael Senator Frank Feighan has welcomed the announcement.
“This is very good news for Roscommon Civil Defence and Lough Ree Sub Aqua Search & Rescue. Both organisations do wonderful work in our local communities”.
Thanking Minister Michael Ring, Senator Feighan said that the CLÁR programme had been closed for new applications by Fianna Fáil in 2009, but is now re-opened and progressing under the Fine Gael-led Government.
