My molloys makeover!

Exciting new beauty products

Our lovely Editor decided to send his most intrepid female reporter to sample the latest, exciting new Note and Flormar skincare and beauty product ranges recently launched at Molloy’s Lifestyle Pharmacy at The Harrison Centre in Roscommon town…sadly, she wasn’t available; so he asked me to go instead!

This is how I found myself sitting under the spotlight in ‘the make-up chair’ at 3.30 pm of a sunny Tuesday afternoon being expertly tended to by the beautiful and very capable and friendly Aisling Harte.

Now this was a really fun assignment for me, simply because I adore make-up; and, as the mother of a professional make-up artist/hair stylist, I really can appreciate the art of creatively applied cosmetics, as well as understanding how a good quality product can not only enhance your best features, but also conceal a multitude of sins…or wrinkles in my case – the bane of every mature woman’s life; especially one like me who arrived at the pharmacy naked – well my face was, anyway!

Entering Molloy’s I was immediately greeted by the lovely Majella who guided me over to waiting make-up artists, Aisling and Diane.

As Aisling applied my Note Detox Protect foundation, she explained how it was “so light, it gives great coverage” adding that it’s really good for mature skin. “I’m also adding a few drops of their Sunglow foundation with added SPF 15 to add luminosity” Aisling said. Hmmm, so far me likeeey. However, when Diane told me that all Note products were “cruelty-free,” me immediately loveeeey!

Next to Note’s under-eye concealer which Aisling also used over my brows and temples, “to give you a bit of contour and shape to your forehead.” Now that’s a trick of the trade I’m glad I learned.

As any discerning diva will tell you, if you want that healthy summer glow all year round then a dash of bronzer is your secret weapon! I happily puckered up and pouted as Aisling expertly applied Flormar’s No. 01 Stardust bronzing powder across my cheekbones, and at the side of my nose, “to give you contour,” as she explained. She then customised my look using Note’s terracotta powder blush over the bronzer and on the tip of my nose as a highlighter. Interesting!

Next it was my eyes, and – as she complimented me on their colour…they’re blue – Aisling felt Flormar’s orange popsicle eyeshadow paired with coral wind and red bronze was just what the make-up artist ordered…and she was right! I loved it; and I was not alone, so did everyone else in the pharmacy. So far…so fabulous, ladies!

When it came to my eyebrows I have to say I got a great tip off Aisling who advised Flormar’s gel eyeliner “can be used as a brow gel because it’s great for precision and that’s what you need to define the brow.” And you know what, she was right. It’s lovely and I’m going to ditch my powder brow liner in exchange for a gel one.

Now for those who like a plumper lip…and, being born with a pillow pout to rival Angelina Jolie’s, I got teased a bit as a kid by girls who’ve since resorted to lip plumping injections…aaahh who’s laughing now…both Aisling and Diane were very complimentary regarding my full pout as I puckered up for an application of Note’s matt moist lip gloss No. 401 in nude pink; and I have to say, as someone who believes a nude or pale pout isn’t just on trend at the moment, it’s also the best way to make your lips look fab without overdoing it; this colour was the business. Aisling got my look just right with her ‘less is more’ nude approach.

Overall I was very impressed with both the Note and Flormar ranges and I will investigate these brands further. As make-up artists, both Diane (Murphy) and Aisling would have a free hand to play around with various brands, however both ladies told me they “like working with Note and Flormar because they’re affordable,” with Diane telling me she’s “happy to recommend them to clients and customers alike because they suit all age groups from teens to people with mature skin.” And, Aisling revealed: “I use these brands myself, they’re lovely and they’re very affordable and I’m very impressed by the range of products.”

* There’s a huge variety of products in-store to choose from. I’m also told there will be an official Note make-up masterclass product launch on September 14th with Charlene Flanagan in Molloy’s Pharmacy. Tickets are €20 (€10 goes to support Vita House in the town).
