The 2022 Roscommon Easter Parade will be a central focus of a two-day festival. There is a super line-up of County Roscommon musicians scheduled for Saturday, 16th April. The music will be performed in the newly-completed Market Square from 3 pm to 9 pm. Matt Molloy and Friends are headlining at 8 pm. Other bands and musicians taking to the stage are Ukephoric, The Blacksticks, Danny Arnold, Matt Rogers & friends and Vinegar Bill.
Then on Sunday, 17th April, Easter Sunday, there is live music from Lady Betty from 11.30 am, The Easter Parade at 12.30 pm sharp, and live music after the parade from The Odd Sox in market square. There are marching bands, live performers, children’s amusements and plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
The committee have announced a theme for this year’s parade – ‘My community’. They felt that with all that we have all gone through over the last two years and all that is currently going on in the world, our communities and welcoming people into our communities has never been as important. The committee are waiving the fee for any volunteer or community group to enter the parade.
As in previous years, the committee is inviting Community and Voluntary groups and businesses to enter floats in the parade. There are awards on the day for – 1: Best Overall; 2: Best Community/Voluntary; 3: Best Business; 4: Most Environmentally Aware; and finally, a prize for the Best Window display.
The festival this year is part-funded by Roscommon County Council & the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme. This festival is also funded by a Roscommon LEADER Partnership grant. The committee also rely on support and donations made by local businesses in Roscommon Town and its environs, which the committee are extremely grateful for.
