Fianna Fáil TD Eugene Murphy has called on the HSE to verify its plans in relation to Loughglynn ambulance base in County Roscommon.
Deputy Murphy said that Government representatives had previously announced that the Loughglynn ambulance base in west Roscommon was expected to provide a 24/7 service by the end of summer – but he is now fearful that this is “simply more spin with no substance”.
He said: “I am calling on the HSE to verify whether it intends to open the Loughglynn ambulance base in the immediate future and if so how it is proposed to do so from a logistical point of view.
“I understand that the service in Loughglynn will not be provided on a full-time basis and, alarmingly, it may also involve taking an ambulance away from Roscommon town in order to do so. That being the case, it’s an attempt to once again pull the wool over people’s eyes and it is simply unacceptable,” said Deputy Murphy.
“If an ambulance is removed from the Roscommon area to service Loughglynn this is only going to put increased pressure on ambulance services in the Roscommon area.
“The people of west Roscommon also deserve better – proper resources need to be allocated in respect of the Loughglynn ambulance base and the HSE needs to clarify its plans for the base and put an end to any further speculation on the matter,” concluded Deputy Murphy.
