Speaking following the launch of the 50th Roscommon Agricultural Show at Hannon’s Hotel on Thursday night last, Senator Eugene Murphy complimented those involved in show since 1970 and welcomed funding for agricultural shows across the country.
“It is great to see the shows back. I would like to congratulate the Roscommon Show committee for putting a full programme of items together and I urge the public of Roscommon town and the rural community throughout County Roscommon to come out in large numbers to this year’s Show,” he said.
Senator Murphy also welcomed what he described as the Government’s commitment to agricultural shows in Roscommon.
“Roscommon, Elphin, Strokestown and Castlerea Show (which was held on Bank Holiday Monday in August) have all been approved funding through Minister Heather Humphreys’ department,” he said.
“Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has also funded new cattle breeding heifer classes for all shows in the region. The classes will be run in conjunction with Irish Shows Society”.
