Mulligan speaks of sense of devastation

Sinn Fein councillor and Ballaghaderreen businessman Michael Mulligan issued the following statement:    ‘Everyone in the Ballaghaderreen and surrounding area is completely gutted and saddened by the sudden announcement of the closure of Dawn Meats.   ‘I share the sense of despair voiced by the workers and their families, the business community, and the many services associated with Dawn Meats. It is demoralising for the community and devastating for the local economy.   ‘The fact that only a week ago a spokesperson for Dawn Meats gave assurance that there would be no redundancy or closures – it is all the more hurtful, and who (now) can you trust?   ‘Dawn Meats in a press release have attempted to put a favourable gloss on the closure, and announce only the positive aspect in order to deflect the negative publicity.   ‘It states that – ‘It’s the company’s intention to make available an outplacement service to help employees who are being made redundant in their effort to source other employment’.   ‘Talking to workers from Dawn Meats, they state that only boners and packers are to apply to Ballyhaunis for work, there’s no word of abattoir staff (people on the killing line)
