More than 27,500 private security professionals in Ireland have completed specialist training on recognising and reporting suspected child trafficking, according to MECPATHS and the Private Security Authority.
The organisations are marking three years of their partnership, which began in October 2023.
The training became a mandatory part of the licensing process for personnel working in door supervision, event security and security guarding.
The 35-minute online programme covers child trafficking, potential warning signs and appropriate reporting procedures.
Security workers can encounter vulnerable children in settings including hotels, airports, ports, nightlife venues and major events.
MECPATHS project manager JP O’Sullivan said recognising possible exploitation and reporting concerns can be an important first step towards protecting a child.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to strengthen Ireland’s response to human trafficking.
