‘More parking spaces planned at hospital’

Senator Frank Feighan says he is glad to learn that the Saolta University Health Care Group is working with hospital management to designate more public and patient parking spaces at Roscommon Hospital.

Senator Feighan says a series of measures were introduced last year as a result of his intervention.

“These included the expansion of the hospital’s security officer services and the introduction of short-term parking (maximum two hours) at the Urgent Care Centre entrance. Both of these actions have helped maximise parking usage on the campus.

“The car park adjacent to Dr. Hyde Park is also being used by staff and visitors and this has addressed some of the overflow.”

Senator Feighan says there are now plans to  designate more public and patient car-parking spaces on campus, which will help address a problem that “many didn’t and couldn’t foresee five years ago.”

Elaborating, he said: “Day-case, outpatient and endoscopy activity at the hospital have increased by almost 50% on average.

“Activity in Roscommon is set to increase and I also welcome the fact that the planning for the new Medical Rehabilitation Unit, to be located at the rear of the hospital, will incorporate additional parking spaces.”
