The G&H Roscommon and District league Challenge Cup took centre stage on Sunday with seven third round games being played. Moore United 3 Castlerea Celtic 4: In an all Premier Division clash in Moore, the home side and Castlerea Celtic and Moore United played out a ten goals thriller before the game went to a penalty shoot out. Castlerea Celtic won the penalty shoot out 4 – 3 with Darragh Bruen saving two penalties for Castlerea Celtic before Peter Hester won the shoot out with an excellent finish. Moore United were 4 – 1 down and playing with ten men before making a great comeback to send the game to extra time. In extra time Moore United went into a 5 – 4 lead before Castlerea Celtic got an equaliser. Ronan Curran scored three and Derek Mulhall and Conor McSharry one each for Castlerea Celtic, with John Greene scoring three and Alan Duffy and Enda Barrett one each for Moore United. The winners are away to either Ballinasloe Town B or Strokestown United in the quarter finals. Ballinasloe Town 3 KC Celtic 1: Cup Holders Ballinasloe Town beat Division 3 side KC Celtic 3-1 in Ballinasloe. The Kilconnell side took an early lead and Mark Duffy scored two for the winners before half time. Darragh Concannon added a third in the second from the penalty spot after Shane Duffy was taken down. They play Cam Celtic in the Quarter Finals. Rahara Rovers B 2 Cloonfad United 5: Premier Division side Cloonfad United had a good win over Division three side Rahara Rovers B 5-2 in Rahara. Pascal Ronane scored three David Keaveney two and Daryl Connelly one for Cloonfad United. Luke Donnelly and Vando scored for Rahara Rovers who also missed a penalty. Cloonfad United are away to St. John’s Athletic in the next round. Shiven Rovers 3 Roscommon Town 1: Premier Division side Shiven Rovers beat Division Two side Roscommon Town 3 – 1 in Newbridge. Frank Killcommins, Paul Ronane and Eoin McDonagh scored for Shiven Rovers and John Mc Hale scored for the Town. Shiven play Skyvalley Rovers the quarter finals. Glen Celtic 2 Cam Celtic 5: Cam Celtic beat Glen Celtic 5 – 2 in Glenamaddy with Cormac Doyle getting three and Mark Gavin adding two for the winners. Skyvalley Rovers 1 Moore United 1: Skyvalley Rovers were made to battle all the way before beating Moore United B in a penalty shoot out after the game finished at 1 – 1 after extra time.
