Supports aimed at easing cost pressures on Irish haulage sector
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, Seán Canney, have welcomed the extension of the Diesel Rebate Scheme and the continuation of fuel duty reductions.
The Ministers said the measures recognise the importance of the haulage sector and the cost pressures currently facing operators.
The additional €255 million in supports brings total Government assistance during the fuel cost-of-living crisis to more than €1 billion.
Minister O’Brien said the extension of the Diesel Rebate Scheme and continued excise duty reductions reflected the Government’s commitment to supporting the haulage sector.
“Maintaining the competitiveness and sustainability of our haulage industry is crucial to keeping goods and services moving throughout the country and across the wider economy,” he said.
Minister Canney said the continuation of the schemes would provide “real and practical assistance” to operators across the haulage industry.
“They will help sustain businesses and employment through what remains a challenging operating environment, as well as enabling the efficient movement of the goods and services we all rely on,” he said.
