Minister: ‘Rosalie decision won’t be dictated by politics’

In what will be seen as a major setback for the campaign opposing its closure, the Minister for Mental Health stated on Wednesday morning that a political decision will not prevent Rosalie Unit in Castlerea from closing.

Minister Jim Daly was responding to Senator Keith Swanick in the Seanad. Senator Swanick, who is from Castlerea, said he totally opposes the unit’s closure. Minister Daly insisted that it was not a political decision.

“It won’t be any politician that will dictate the future of that unit. It won’t be any HSE management that will dictate the future of the unit for these people. It will be dictated by clinical best guidance and what’s in the best interests of these patients”.
