Education of children is a priority in the Aughrim area, according to Bishop Christopher Jones, speaking at the official opening and blessing of a new extension at Aughrim NS on January 17th last. ‘When one looks at this beautiful, bright building one is convinced that the education of children is a priority with this community. All communities need leaders and I wish to congratulate Fr. Eddie Moore and the Board of Management for planning and providing this first class facility for the children of this community. Of course it represents months of anxiety and worry as the Board held their meetings through winter and summer and sent delegations to the Department of Science.’ The Bishop thanked local inspectors and staff in the Department of Education and had a special word of thanks for Education Minister Mary Hanafin who performed the official opening. ‘It is great that the Government is prepared to invest so much money in all levels of education and no doubt this will prove a great investment in years to come,’ said the Bishop.
