Miley to address dinner dance

Mr. Michael Miley, President of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of Ireland will be the Guest Speaker at the Roscommon IFA Annual Dinner Dance in The Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Friday, 18th January, 2008. Mr. Miley is a native of Rahara, Co. Roscommon and has more than 30 years experience in Journalism and public relations in agriculture, food and rural affairs. Mr. Bernard Donohue, Roscommon IFA County Chairman said Roscommon people are looking forward to meeting Michael Miley and we are delighted he has accepted our invitation to attend. Mr. Donohue said Mr. Miley started his career in RTE as a producer/presenter of farming programmes and has the distinction of starting the daily programme, Farm News, which this year celebrates its 33rd birthday and is one of the longest running radio programmes in the country. On leaving RTÉ, he worked for a short period as a promotions and marketing executive with Nitrigin Éireann Teoranta (NET) – later to be called IFI – before moving back to journalism, as the first editor of the Sunday Journal, a weekly national newspaper aimed at a rural audience. He then moved into public relations, firstly with ACOT, the national farm advisory and training body and later as Public Relations Manager with Teagasc, the agriculture and food development authority. He also served as Programme Manager to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Ivan Yates, during the 1994-97 Fine Gael-led government. He left Teagasc in 2004 and is now a public relations consultant, specialising in agri-food and rural development. Michael is a former President of the Agricultural Science Association, the body representing graduates in all areas of the agri-food industry. He is also a former Chairman of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of Ireland and is the current President of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists of Ireland, one of the longest established north-south bodies in the country.
