Mike’s debut on US TV network

Roscommon-based Mike Keenan has broken new ground this week, reaching out to new countries through EWTN, a Catholic TV station in America which reaches 250 million people worldwide. EWTN is part of the Sky package available in Ireland. Recently Mike was invited to present his own half hour show on the network. On the show he showcases five of his own songs and gives some of the background and the influences that inspired the songs. Up to now, this honour has usually been given to American singer songwriters but producers were so impressed by the quality of Mike’s songs and the depth of his lyrics that they extended the net beyond America for a presenter for the show. Before he knew it, he was in EWTN headquarters in Alabama, being tutored about getting everything into the half hour show and then presenting it. In two days it was all done and dusted and the final product was finally available for viewing. It was televised on Wednesday morning March 12th at 6.30 am Irish time. The show itself is called ‘Backstage’ and is introduced by Dana Rosemary Scallon. After winning the vote of the people on TG4’s Glór Tíre last year Mike has been writing for his forthcoming album. Between working as a psychiatric nurse in Roscommon, producing concerts with school choirs and getting involved in local and national fundraisers Mike is certainly kept busy.
