The countdown to Rally Ireland has begun in earnest with the release of the entry list of the 90 competitors who will take to the roads of Belfast and the north-western border counties icluding Leitrim & Roscommon next month as Ireland makes its debut in the World Rally Championship. Twenty-one countries are represented on the Rally Ireland entry list, with competitors coming from as far as Qatar, Japan and the USA, and an impressive entry of 53 competitors from the island of Ireland, north and south.The four days of action kick off with the Super Special Stage at Stormont on 15 th November, where the best in the world compete head to head on a specially designed circuit of Parliament Buildings and Stormont Castle. The following three days see the rally action take to the roads of Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Roscommon, Fermanagh and Tyrone. Among those lucky enough to be competing is local Midland Club member Michael Murray who lives in Longford and who will be competing in a Mitsubishi Evo. Michael who is originally from Rahara in Roscommon competed in the Rally Ireland pilot events in 2005 and 2006 is delighted to be part of the first ever WRC event held on these shores. A sector marshals training night will be held on Monday the 5 th November in the Abbey Hotel at 8.30 which coinsides with our November club meeting. Members are asked to make a special effort to be at this meeting to finalise arrangements for Rally Ireland. Please note that the meeting point for marshals for stages 9 & 10 on Friday the 16 th November is Drumshanbo mart, Co. Leitrim at 10.30 at the latest. Assistance is also needed for the last stage on Sunday the 18 th November located near Mullaghmore, Sligo.
