Country singer Mick Flavin and Driftaway Travel in Letterkenny have something in common. They both started business in the same year. Mick went on the road on 1987 to start his career in country music in the same year as Driftaway Travel opened in Letterkenny. This means that both he and the well-known travel company be celebrating 21 years in business in 2008. Mick took 151 people to Tennessee in 2006 on one of the most successful country music tours to ever leave these shores, and he decided that he would like to celebrate his 21 years in business in style. Mick still packs the dance halls of Ireland and people love his style of singing and the brand of country and Irish that he sings. Mick contacted Driftaway Travel recently and asked if they could arrange something special for his fans and himself, for a week in the sun to celebrate a great twenty-one years on the road. Deirdre Grant, Managing Director of Driftaway Travel has taken many groups abroad and one of her favourite destinations in the Tivoli Almansor hotel on the Algarve in Portugal. She contacted the hotel, organised flights and put together what she says will be a wonderful entertainment holiday. Mick and his fans will depart from Dublin and some other regional airports on 18th May next year for seven nights in the lovely four-star hotel, which is nestled, into the cliff front overlooking the Atlantic and on the fringe of the lovely village of Carvoeiro. Mick will be joined by some of his friends and long time associates in the country music industry including Philomena Begley, Brian Coll, Patrick Feeney, Carmel McLaughlin, P.J. Murrihy and more! What Deirdre discovered when Mick went to Tennessee in 2006 is that he is a real ‘fans Man.’ He loves to spend time with his fans and whether it is sitting around the pool having a chat, or enjoying the craic after the show, no one will feel left out when Mick is about. The hotel has a large private function room, which will be taken over by Mick for the entertainment during the week and the group have dinner in a separate dining room. Dinner is included for six out of the seven nights. They decided to leave one night free because Carvoeiro has some fantastic restaurants and people love an opportunity to sample the local cuisine for at least one of the nights of the tour. The last night is actually a gala dinner night and this is a wonderful event when the hotel really excel. The food in the hotel is of the highest standard and is buffet style so that you can eat as much as you like and choose as many different foods as you wish. Deirdre Grant says ‘I have had several groups in this hotel and every one has been fantastic.’ They have decided to have a cake and candles and really celebrate the 21st birthday in style in Portugal, and they can’t wait for what will be a fabulous week in the sun, with non-stop music and great fun. The price of the week including the pass for the full week of entertainment in a private function room is €899 and this also includes flights, transfers, dinner, bed and breakfast in the four star hotel and a gala dinner. What more could you ask for?
