McDonnell’s late winner for Cam

Division One/Two play-off Cam Celtic 2  Lisnamult Celtic 1 Dave Dibble Cam Celtic retained their First Division place after beating an under-par Lisnamult Celtic in the Division One and Two play-off.   With just 3 minutes on the clock, after a mix-up in the Cam Celtic defence, Marus picked up a cross from Maxwell to score at the far post to put Lisnamult Celtic one up.   Both defences had a poor start to this game, in reality. With 6 minutes gone Cam Celtic’s Howard Costello saw his shot go just over the bar after some poor defending by Lisnamult Celtic. Lisnamult Celtic won the first corner of the game which saw Edmilision’s shot cleared off the Cam Celtic goal-line.   With so much at stake the first half was a very  poor affair. Cam Celtic never looked like scoring and Lisnamult Celtic were struggling too and looked off the pace for long periods of that first half.    In the closing stages Cam Celtic started to play better and they began to look like they could get back into this game. On 79 minutes they were right back in the game when Brendan Lohan’s cross was met by Philip O’Connor who headed past Connor in the Lisnamult Celtic goal.   Now all the football was being played by the first division side. With just one minute on the clock, Adrian McDonnell picked up the ball just outside the Lisnamult Celtic box and drilled the ball past Connor in the Celtic goal.   McDonnell’s goal kept Cam Celtic in the First Division for next season while it will be Division Two football for Lisnamult Celtic who never got started in this game in what was a disappointing end to a season in which they have been so consistent.  Lisnamult Celtic: S O’Connor, Dave Casey, Steven Mannion, Pat Hoey, John Tierney, Raffiel Paul, Johnson, Maxwell, Marcus, Edmilision, Barry Molloy.
