Mayo 1-16 Roscommon 2-11
Mayo were the deserved two point winners of the big game at Dr Hyde Park today but Roscommon could have stolen it at the end when Ben O’Carroll’s shot was blocked and cleared and Mayo survived to win by 1-16 to 2-11.
Mayo were dominant in a forgettable first half and they led 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.
When Jack Carney scored a Mayo goal in the 48th minute it looked like an easy win for Kevin McStay’s men.
But Roscommon’s subs came up trumps again and two excellent goals from Enda Smith and Conor Cox meant it would be a tight finish.
But a late point from Matthew Ruane settled Mayo nerves before a crowd of 12, 491.
