Chairperson of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Foundation Mike Smith launched a monthly draw on behalf of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Foundation on Friday. Entry is €10 a month with all funds going directly to local palliative care services.
Speaking at the launch, Mike Smith said: “I am delighted to launch the monthly draw; it’s a fantastic way people can support palliative care services in both Mayo and Roscommon, with the added incentive of winning a prize. The monthly draw is part of our recently launched strategy plan and I am delighted to see it being implemented. I would ask people to get behind this draw and support it and I wish all entrants luck”.
Funds received as part of the draw will be used to provide specialist palliative care in the community and both hospices; counselling and psychological support to patients and families; financial support and advice; night nursing in conjunction with Irish Cancer Society, as well as ongoing training and education for the team.
Each draw will take place on the first Friday of the month at the Foundation offices in Knock, Co. Mayo. The first prize each month is €1,000; second prize is €500 and third prize €250.
Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Foundation, said: “The Foundation launched two hospice units in the last three years and the cost of both was over €15 million. This all came from fundraised income and thanks to the support of the people of Mayo and Roscommon, we can continue to provide our services free of charge.
“Our palliative care services would not exist without both communities and we are most grateful for all of the support we have received to date. We will continue to fund services within both hospices, in partnership with the HSE”.
