We start our final golf tour of 2016 in Athlone where Martin Fitzgibbon collected the Edo Flynn Memorial Cup following an epic win over Colm Cummins in the final. Martin also collected the runners-up prize in the Carty Meats Hamper too. The Hamper was won by Alan Oliver with a score of 40 points.
To Boyle next where last weekend’s 9-hole Stableford was won by David Wynne with 23 points, just one ahead of Dave Purser in second and Vincent Egan in third.
Carrick-on-Shannon will play host to a 9-hole competition next Tuesday (December 27th) with tee-off set for 11 am.
Meanwhile, Phil McWeeney won the recent Christmas Hamper competition ahead of Elizabeth Muldowney while Kathleen Loftus took the recent Winter Alliance competition.
Also in Carrick, there are a few weeks to catch up on from the November/December Hamper series: Jim Jing won week 3, Michael Keville won week four, Boyce Nolan won week five and Michael Duignan won week six.
Carrick are in the middle of the last week of hampers and Tom Daly is unlikely to be caught on 168, ten points ahead of Joey Casey.
As 2016 draws to a close, Castlerea Golf Club would like to say a big thank you to all who helped out in any way in the running of the club during the year. We look forward to your continued support in 2017. Special thanks to the People for coverage of the golf notes each week.
Clubs across Roscommon have sent in their thanks and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to members, sponsors and committee members and Athlone, Boyle, Castlerea, Carrick-on-Shannon, Roscommon and Strokestown golf clubs look forward to your continued support in 2017.
