Castlerea There were 750 cattle on offer at Castlerea mart last week. Despite the recent inclement weather conditions a large attendance of buyers were present and trade was steady for all lots on offer. There was an increased number of weanling heifers on offer with good demand for the quality lots that were on offer. There were 370 weanlings on offer with bulls making from €280 to €450 over their weight. Weanling heifers made from €250 to €765 over their weight. Cows with calves at foot made from €1,000 to €1,500 per head. Springer cows made from €630 to €1,450 per head. There were small numbers on offer at our sheep sale this week. Trade was unchanged. Roscommon There was a very good trade at Roscommon cattle mart last Friday. All classes of steers were back in numbers on last week. This was mainly due to the adverse weather conditions. Heavy bullocks sold from €350 to €600 with their weights. Store bullocks sold from €340 to €595 over their weights. Beef/butcher heifers were sold for €440 to €500 with their weights. Store heifers sold for €300 to €550 with their weights. Dry cows sold for €470 to €1,025 per head. Springer cows sold from €990 to €1,220. There were no cows with calves at foot on offer. Weanling heifers sold from €280 to €365 over their weights. Wealing bulls sold from €220 to €420 with their weights. Weanling bulls: AA 515 kgs: €935; Ch 350 kgs €700; Ch 360 kgs €740. Sheep sale: A big number of hoggets was on offer last Wednesday. Prices were maintained at last week’s rates. There was a 100% clearance of ewes and lambs. The trade for dry ewes was up on the previous week. Cattle sale: There will no sale on Good Friday, 21 st March.
