Show and Sale – Tuesday, September 6th: There was a large entry of top quality stock on offer at the Show and Sale of Weanlings held on Tuesday last.

  There was a very lively trade for weanling bulls with prices averaging from €2.54 per kilo up to €3.78 per kilo. There was a good attendance of both exporters and farmers in attendance. There was also a brisk trade for weanling heifers. Prices averaged from €2.53 per kilo up to €3.81 per kilo.

  Cattle prices – Friday, September 2nd: There was a large entry of excellent quality cattle which included a special sale of heifers. There was a brisk trade for heifers in particular for good quality lots. Prices averaged from €2.33 per kilo up to €3.30 per kilo. The trade for bullocks was in line with the previous week with a good clearance of lots. There was an improved trade for dry cows with prices averaging from €1.73 per kilo up to €2.16 per kilo.

  Sheep sale – Wednesday, September 7th: We had a very large entry at our annual show and sale of lambs. There was a lively trade for lambs with a large attendance of customers. There were excellent quality ewe lambs on offer with a top price of €141. Finished lambs made as high as €108. There was a good demand for light store lambs. The trade for cast ewes was on a par with the previous week. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Please note that ewe lambs will be sold separately.

  Breeding ewes – Saturday, September 3rd: There was a good entry of breeding stock on offer again this week. There was a flying trade for both breeding ewes and hoggets resulting in an excellent clearance of lots.

  Two-year-olds made up to €166 while the tops in Hoggets made up to €210. Breeding sheep continue weekly on Saturdays at 11 am. Gates open at 8 am. Show and Sale of pedigree Suffolk rams Saturday next September 10th. Show at 12 noon. Sale at 1.30 pm.

  Hoggets ranged from €120 to €210 per head. 2-year-old ewes made from €137 to €166 per head. 3-year-old ewes made from €112 to €135 per head. 

Castlerea Mart

Sale, September 1st: 700 cattle on offer with a solid trade reported this week. Quality stores in particular were a lively trade in both the bullock and heifer rings.  Dry cows and breeding stock also reported good demand with prices similar to last week while in the weanling rings the top quality lots reported some fancy prices while the plainer lots were a little easier.

  Sample prices – bullocks: Lm 470kgs €1,260, Ch 460kgs €1,180, Ch 540kgs €1,325, Lm 515kgs €1,240, Ch 560kgs €1,370, Lm 630kgs €1,490, AA 710kgs €1,580.

  Heifers: Lm 400kgs €1,080, BBx 410kgs €1,060, Lm 480kgs €1,255, Ch 480kgs €1,215, Ch 560Kgs €1,375, Lm 540kgs €1,265, Ch 620kgs €1,320.

  Dry cows: Ch 730kgs €1,395, Red Lm 630kgs €1,035, Ch 720kgs €1,300, Lm 735kgs €1,190, Lm 700kgs €1,355.

  Cows with calves at foot made from €990 to €1,660 for a Limousin cow and her heifer calf at foot.

  Springer cows made from €970 to €1,470 per head. Calves made from €200 to €400 with runners making up to €700 per head.

  Weanling: Bigger numbers on offer this week.
