Roscommon Mart Report

Cattle prices – Friday, July 1st: There were slightly smaller numbers on offer this week. There was firm trade for bullocks with a livelier trade and improved prices for heifers and dry cows. Anniversary sale for bullocks and heifers on Friday (July 8th) including 50 pens of bullocks, 30 pens of heifers. Also dry cows, suckler cows and weanlings – two rings in operation. All cattle must be penned by 10.30 am.

  Last week dry cows made from €700 up to €1390 per lot.

Sample prices: SAX 790 kgs €1,390, Char 745 kgs €1,335, Simm X 705 kgs €1,200, Lim X 590 kgs €1,090,AAX 675 kgs €950, Char X 685 kgs €1,090, HEX 630 kgs €865, Fr 620 kgs €700.

  Heifers made from €395 to €765 over. Sample prices: Char X 615 kgs €1,380, BBX 645 kgs €1,250, Char X 580 kgs €1,200, Char X 535 kgs €1,155, BBX 465 kgs €1,145, Char X 425 kgs €1,045, Lim X 490 kgs €1,040, Lim X 330 kgs €985, 2 Char X 295 €900, Lim X 295 kgs €900.

  Bullocks made from €410 to €775 over. Sample prices: BBX 705 kgs €1,480, Lim X 565 kgs €1,190, Lim X 265 kgs €675.

  Sheep sale – Wednesday, July 6th: There were larger numbers on offer this week. There was a steady trade for lambs with plenty of store lambs on offer. The trade for cast ewes was in line with last week. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs, cast ewes and ewes with lambs at foot.

  Sample prices – Spring lambs: 49.30 kgs €112, 55 kgs €110, 47.8 kgs €109, 46.1 kgs €107, 49.7 kgs €106, 47.8 kgs €105, 47.70 kgs €105.

  Store lambs: 40.8 kgs €93, 41.70kgs €93, 41.7kgs €92, 41.5 kgs €89, 40.1 kgs €88.50, 40.6 kgs €87.5, 37.80 kgs €86, 36.7 kgs €84, 39kgs €85, 36.10 kgs €80. Cast ewes made from €85 to €112 per lot and ewes with twin lambs at foot made up to €285 per unit.

Castlerea Mart Report

Sale, June 30th: 500 cattle were on offer and despite the recent inclement weather, Brexit and other uncertainties, trade was maintained for all quality stores on offer.

  Heifers in particular were a very strong trade on the day with improved quality lots on offer.

  The weanling and breeding stock reported good clearances; quality store bullocks were similar in price to last week, with a slight ease in price for plainer lots.

  Sample prices: Bullocks: Ch 450kgs – €1,195; Ch 540kgs – €1,320; BBx 580kgs – €1,360; AA 660kgs – €1,315.

  Heifers: Ch 420kgs – €1,140; Lim 400kgs – €1,135; Lim 470kgs – €1,205; AAx 450kgs – €1,080; Lim 525kgs – €1,305; Lim 435kgs – €1,060.

  Dry cows: Lm 650kgs – €1,320; Lm 680kgs – €1,220; AA 750kgs – €1,245; Chx 680kgs – €1,205.

  Cows with calves at foot made from €950 to €1910 for a limousin cow and her limousin bull calf at foot.  

  Springer cows made from €900 to €1380 per head.

  Calves: Stronger type coming on stream at the moment with demand holding firm. Fr-type lots made from €50 to €235, with continental lots making from €450 to €705. Weanling bulls: Lm 290kgs – €895; Ch 290kgs – €815; BBX 410kgs – €1,125; BBX 400kgs – €1,020; Ch 340kgs – €860.

  Weanling heifers: Lm 245kgs – €825; Lim 275kgs – €940; Lm 350kgs – €1,100; Ch 360kgs – €965; BBx 430kgs – €1,080.

  Sales continue at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, July 7th, with the usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am.
