There was another large entry of stock on offer at last Friday’s sale with a solid trade for bullocks with prices averaging from €2.04 per kilo up to €2.59 per kilo with a good demand and a 93% clearance of lots. Prices for heifers were steady for plainer lots while the trade for quality lots were slightly improved with prices averaging from €2.25 per kilo up to €2.91 per kilo and an 82% clearance.
There was an improved trade for dry cows with prices averaging from €1.53 per kilo up to €2.89 per kilo and a 95% clearance of lots.
There will be a special sale of bullocks tomorrow (Friday) at 11 am. 85 pens on offer with heifers and dry cows. Cattle must be penned by 10 am to be included in the draw. There will be also be a special winter sale of heifers next Friday (11th) at 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 3rd).

Tuesday sale – There were bigger numbers on offer this week with improved trade for weanling bulls, with prices averaging from €2.45 per kilo up to €3.38 per kilo. There was a firm trade for weanling heifers. Prices ranged from €2.40 per kilo up to €5.09 per kilo for an outstanding Char X Heifer weighing 275 kgs and fetching €1400.
There was a better demand from farmers this week while exporters are still very active. A special entry of springers made from €1480 up to €2120.
There will be an extra special winter sale of weanlings on Tuesday, November 8th at 5 pm. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 3rd).

Sheep sale – Wednesday, November 2nd: There was a smaller entry of lambs for sale this week with excellent quality ewe lambs on offer with a top price of €116. There was a dip in trade for the finished lambs with lambs making as high as €100. There was also a slight dip in trade for cast ewes. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes.
Sample prices – Mixed lambs: 52.40kgs €100, 53.4kgs €100, 53.10kgs €100, 52.3kgs €100, 53.6kgs €98. Store lambs: 40.4kgs €83, 42.3kgs €83, 40.9kgs €80, 39.3kgs €80. Ewe lambs: 48kgs €116, 47.2kgs €115, 51.4kgs €107, 52.4kgs €100, 46.9kgs €93. Cast ewes made from €31.5 to €89 per lot.
Castlerea Mart Report
1000 cattle on offer last week with lesser quality stock presented for sale. Heifer weanlings reported a similar trade while in the weanling bulls the lighter-type calves aided by the strong export trade were the best sellers with the stronger, plainer bulls harder sold.
Sample prices – heifers: Ch 410kgs €1005, AA 385kgs €980, Ch 490kgs €1190, BBX 490kgs €1425, Ch 460kgs €1080, BBx 530kgs €1310. Dry cows: Ch 980kgs €1570, Lm 810kgs €1450, AA 840kgs €1420, Lm 485kgs €815.
Cows with calves at foot made from €1200 to €1700 per head. Springers made from €950 to €1400 per head.
Calves: Young calves made from €70 to €380 per head with stronger type lots making from €310 to €670. Weanling bulls: Ch 280kgs €875, Ch 320kgs €1020, Lm 270kgs €900, Ch 350kgs €980, Ch 395kgs €975. Weanling heifers: Lm 295kgs €835, Ch 280kgs €875, Lm 350kgs €890, Ch 320kgs €865, Lm 300kgs €825.
Bullocks sale: 250 bullocks on offer with better quality stores presented for sale with prices holding similar to previous weeks. Bullocks made from €280 to €775 over their weight with an average of €515 over paid.
