Roscommon Mart Report

Friday, October 21st: There was a huge sale of stock on offer at last Friday’s sale. There was a firm trade for bullocks with prices holding well for quality stock. The lesser type bullock remains more difficult to sell. Prices for bullocks averaged from €2.21 per kilo up to €2.98 per kilo.  

  There was good buyer activity from both farmers and agents resulting in an 86% clearance of lots. There was a slightly easier trade for plainer heifers while the quality lots were similar to the previous week. Prices for heifers averaged from €2.22 per kilo up to €2.74 per kilo. There was a good entry of dry cows with prices on par to the last week.

  Special sale of heifers, tomorrow (Friday) at 11 am with 65 pens on offer. Also 35 pens of bullocks and dry cows  –cattle must be penned by 10 am to be included in the draw. There will be a special winter sale of bullocks next Friday (November 4th) at 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday).

  Tuesday, October 25th: There was another large entry of weanlings on offer at last Tuesday’s sale. There was a firm trade for weanling bulls with prices averaging from €2.38 per kilo up to €3.38 per kilo with a clearance of 83%.There was a steady trade for weanling heifers. Prices ranged from €2.43 per kilo up to €3.26 per kilo and 81% clearance. There was a good demand from both exporters and farmers. A special entry of springers made from €1600 up to €2180.

  There will be a special winter sale of weanlings next Tuesday (Nov 1st) at 5 pm. Bookings accepted up to today at 5 pm. 18 top quality in calf heifers on offer, due dates available on evening of sale.

  Sheep sale – Wednesday, October 26th: We had a large entry of lambs for sale this week. There were excellent quality ewe lambs on offer with a top price of €135.50. There was a strong demand for store lambs. The trade for the finished lambs was on a par with the previous week with lambs making as high as €104. There was a slight dip in the trade for cast ewes. Sales continue on Wednesdays at 11 am.

Castlerea Mart Report

There were big numbers on offer again last week with good quality cattle remaining a firm trade. The heifer ring reported a good clearance with better quality on offer this week. Heifer weanlings were an improved trade while the lighter bulls were the best sellers in the bull weanling ring with heavier lots a little harder sold this week. Bigger numbers of breeding stock coming on offer with prices holding.

  Sample prices for heifers: Lmx 420kgs €1050, Lm 390kgs €1015, Ch 470kgs €1225, Ch 450kgs €1140, Ch 510kgs €1265, Lm 525kgs €1200, AA 650kgs €1375.

  Dry cows: Chx 820kgs €1355, Lm 735kgs €1255, Ch 810kgs €1330, Fr 675kgs €750, Lm 680kgs €1100. Cows with calves at foot made from €900 to €2040 while springers made from €1050 to €1400 and runners made from €290 to €700.

  Weanling bulls: Ch 285kgs €890, Lm 275kgs €830, Lm 350kgs €1090, Lm 495kgs €1035, Ch 290kgs €840. Weanling heifers: Lmx 270kgs €900, Ch 285kgs €855, Lm 320kgs €890, Ch 320kgs €1085, Lm 300kgs €870.

  In last Monday week’s bullock sale there were 300 bullocks on offer making from €300 to €865 over their weight with an average of €513 over paid. Quality lots remained a steady trade but plainer-type lots continue to be a slow sell.
