Friday, May 13th: There were good numbers on offer at last Friday’s sale. There was a flying trade for heifers with prices ranging from €2.51 per kilo up to a max of €3.17 per kilo. The trade for bullocks was strong for good quality lots with the lesser type lots a little easier. Prices for bullocks averaged from €2.35 per kilo up to €2.90 per kilo.There was a good entry of dry cows on offer with prices on par to the previous week with prices ranging from €1.67 per kilo up to €2 per kilo.
Sales as usual, Friday next May 20th for bullocks, heifers and dry cows. All stock must be penned by 10.30 am. Cattle not penned by this time will not be included in the draw. Special sale for both bullocks and heifers on Friday, May 27th. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm on Thursday, May 19th.

Tuesday, 17th May: There was a good entry of weanlings on offer at last Tuesday’s sale. There was a firm trade for weanling heifers with prices averaging from €2.52 up to €3.33 per kilo. There was also a lively trade for bull weanlings with prices averaging from €2.56 per kilo up to €3.29 per kilo. Sale of weanlings and suckler cows and cows with calves at foot as usual Tuesday next (May 24th) at 5 pm. Special sale of weanlings on Tuesday, May 31st at 5 pm. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm on Thursday, May 26th.

Sheep sale, Wednesday, May 18th: There was another good entry of sheep on offer this week. There was no significant change in the price for spring lambs. The numbers of ewe hoggets were smaller with prices slightly better than last week. The trade for cast ewes was similar. Again this week there was decent entry of ewes with lambs at foot with the tops for a ewe with two lambs making €270 while ewes with single lambs at foot made up to €205. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs, cast ewes and ewes with lambs at foot.

Castlerea Mart Report
May 12th: 800 cattle on offer and trade was aided this week with improved weather conditions and grass growth.
Store cattle in particular were a very strong trade while cows with calves at foot reported the strongest trade of the day resulting in a good clearance.
Sample prices – heifers: Si 380kgs €1160, Ch 410kgs €1150, Lim 355kgs €1045, Ch 495kgs €1290, BBX 540kgs €1420, Lim 550kgs €1380.
Dry cows: Lim 480kgs €1025, Lim 740kgs €1410, Lim 640kgs €1285, Ch 710kgs €1340.
Cows with calves at foot made from €1100 to €2080 for a Lm cow and her Ch bull calf at foot. Springer cows made from €790 to €1225 per head. Dairy cows made from €900 to €1100 per head. Calves: AA bull €360, Ch bull €500, Sim hfr €420, Hr hfr €255, Hr bull €465.

Bullock sale, Monday, 9th May: 150 bullocks on offer with bullocks making from €400 to €910 with their weight with an average of €626 over paid. Trade in general was similar to the previous week with the smaller bullocks showing a little better improvement.
