Cattle prices – Friday, December 9th: There were good numbers on offer at Friday’s sale with a cracking trade all-round. Bullocks sold from €2.20 per kilo up to €2.82 per kilo with a 93% clearance of lots.
Again the heifers were in good demand with prices ranging from €2.21 per kilo up to €3.13 per kilo, with a 90% clearance of lots. There was a large entry of dry cows on offer with prices ranging from €1.44 per kilo up to €1.89 per kilo. Final sale for bullocks, heifers and dry cows, tomorrow (Friday 16th) at 11 am.

Tuesday, December 13th: There were good numbers on offer for the final weanling sale of 2016. There was a steady trade for weanling heifers with prices ranging from €2.31 per kilo up to €2.90 per kilo with all lots sold barring one animal. There was a good trade for bull weanlings with prices averaging from €2.33 per kilo up to €3.02 per kilo. Springers made from €1000 up to €1360. Weanlings and suckler cows will resume on Tuesday, January 17th at 5 pm.
Weanling heifers made from €330 to €620 over. Sample prices: BBX 380kgs €1000, Char X 375kgs €985, Lim X 350kgs €850, Char X 290kgs €840, Char X 310kgs €825, Lim X 290kgs €790, Char X 295kgs €760, Lim X 255kgs €735, BBX 260kgs €700.

Sheep sale – Wednesday: We had a smaller entry of lambs for sale again this week. The top price for ewe lambs was €110. There was slight dip in trade for the finished lambs with lambs making as high as €105. The trade for cast ewes was similar to the previous week.
Final sale for 2016 – next Wednesday, December 21st.

Castlerea Mart Report
Trade remained firm at last Thursday’s sale in Castlerea with 680 cattle of plainer stock on offer. The weanling trade remained firm particularly for quality lots while the heifer ring reported a good clearance even with less forward types on offer.
Sample prices for heifers ranged from €990 for Lm at 400kgs to €995 for Lm at 460kgs. Ch at 470kgs made €1145 while Ch at 500kgs saw €1230. AA 470kgs made €1075 and BBx 530kgs €1270.
Dry cows: Ch 860kgs €1490, Lm 785kgs €1460, Ch 780kgs €1325, Ch 790kgs €1445. Cows with calves at foot made from €1050 to €1820 per head while springers made from €850 to €1410. Meanwhile, calves and runners made from €220 to €700 for stronger types.
Sample prices for weanling bulls: Ch 270kgs €915, Lm 260kgs €870, Ch 260kgs €825, Sim 420kgs €995, Lm 370kgs €960, BBx 390kgs €995.
Weanling heifers: Ch 230kgs €755, Ch 275kgs €735, Ch 330kgs €870, Lm 320kgs €855, Ch 320kgs €800.
Today (Thursday 15th), Castlerea Mart hosts the final sale for 2016 with bullocks, heifers, cows, calves and weanlings on offer. All sales to start at 11 am.
