Roscommon  Mart Report

Cattle prices – Friday, August 5th: There were similar numbers on offer this week. There was a solid trade for bullocks with a high percentage of lots sold. Bullock prices ranged from €2.06 per kilo up to €2.61 per kilo. There was also a good trade for heifers with prices ranging from €2.33 per kilo up to €2.60 per kilo. There was no significant change in the trade for dry cows. Sales continue on Friday weekly for bullocks, heifers and dry cows. Special sales for heifers and bullocks tomorrow at 11 am.

  Heifers made from €355 to €580 over. Sample prices: Lim X 520 kgs €1,100, Lim X 440 kgs €1,100, 2 Char X 395 kgs €1,000, HEX 395 kgs €750, 2 Char X 355 kgs €850, Char X 365 kgs €950, Lim X 340 kgs €820, Lim X 355 kgs €900.

  Bullocks made from €595 to €735 over. Sample prices: Lim X 640 kgs €1,375, Lim X 605 kgs €1,270, AAX 610 kgs €1,250, Char X 560 kgs €1,250, Simm X 485 kgs €1,030, 2 Char X 452 kgs €1,040, Char X 440 kgs €1,080, 2 Char X 450 kgs €1,130.

  Breeding ewes – Saturday, August 6th: There was a good entry of breeding sheep on offer at the opening sale of the season held on Saturday last. There was a good trade for breeding ewes with a top price of €170 for a pen of 2 year old ewes. There was brisk trade for hoggets with the tops making €205. Hoggets ranged from €112 to €205 per head, 2 year old Ewes made from €125 to €170 per head, 3 year old Ewes made from €130 to €139 per head.

  Weanlings and suckler cows – Tuesday, August 9th: There was a good entry of excellent quality weanlings on offer at the opening show and sale. There was a lively trade for bulls with prices averaging from €2.44 per kilo up to €3.17 per kilo with an 86% clearance of lots. There was also a brisk trade for weanling heifers. Prices averaged from €2.56 per kilo up €3.56 per kilo with 85% of the lots sold. There were a good number of both farmers and exporters in attendance. Springers made from €1,100 up to €1,400. Next sale of weanlings and suckler cows is Tuesday, August 23rd at 5 pm.

Sheep sale – Wednesday, August 10th: There were larger numbers on offer this week. The trade for lambs was a little better than the previous week. There was a large number of ewe lambs present with a pen of ewe lambs making as high as €121. The trade for cast ewes was on a par with the previous week . Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am.

Castlerea  Mart Report

Sale, August 4th: 420 cattle on offer. Weanling heifers prices were improved by €30-€40 per head. Bigger numbers of bullocks presented for sale this week also with prices holding and demand strongest for the younger quality lots.

  Sample prices – bullocks: Ch 455kgs €1,230, Lm 480kgs €1,150, AA 500kgs €1,175, Lm 510kgs €1,150, Ch 555kgs €1,300, Lm 640kgs €1,400, Lm 600kgs €1,320.

  Heifers: Ch 420kgs €1,075, AA 420kgs €990, Ch 480kgs €1,190, Ch 430kgs €1,125, Ch 590kgs €1,465, BBX 595kgs €1,390.

  Dry cows: Chx 825kgs €1,425, Ch 680kgs €1,320, Ch 680kgs €1,210, Lm 630kgs €1,125.

  Cows with calves at foot made from €900 to €1,520 per head, with springers making from €1,150 to €1,330 per head. Calves numbers starting to decrease with lots making from €170 to €630 for stronger types.

  Weanling heifers: Ch 265kgs €820, Ch 260kgs €800, Ch 300kgs €935, Lm 310kgs €910, Lm 440kgs €1,175. Weanling bulls: Ch 260kgs €880, Lmx 230kgs €805, Chx 355kgs €990, Lmx 370kgs €1,090, Ch 350kgs €985.

  Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday, 11th) with a sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am with three rings in operation.
