Castlerea Mart Report
Thursday, February 2nd: There were 680 cattle on offer this week with stronger prices especially for the store bullock and store heifers.
With increased demand this week, prices were improved by €20 to €30 per head. The weanlings continue to be a strong trade while breeding stock and calves reported a good clearance. The first dairy sale of 2017 also reported a good demand while the dry cows remained a similar trade to previous weeks.
Sample prices – bullocks: Ch 480 kgs €1200, AA 490 kgs €1155, AA 520 kgs €1265, Ch 590 kgs €1385, Ch 640 kgs €1450, Lim 710 kgs €1520.
Heifers: Lm 420kgs €1095, Lm 350kgs €1040, Si 410kgs €1040, Ch 495kgs €1220, Lm 450kgs €1140, Lm 505kgs €1475, Sim 530kgs €1460.
Dry cows: Ch 890kgs €1580, Lm 760kgs €1375, Her 820kgs €1365, Lm 660kgs €1125.
Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today, Thursday (9th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves and weanlings, with three rings in operation. All sales commence at 11 am.
Roscommon Mart Report
Cattle prices – Friday, February 3rd: There was excellent trade again this week with nearly 100% clearance of lots. Prices for bullocks were improved from the previous week. Average prices ranged from €2.24 per kilo up to €2.37 per kilo. The trade for heifers was similar to last week with lots averaging from €2.25 per kilo up to €2.79 per kilo. There was also a better trade for dry cows with averages from €1.57 per kilo up to €1.90 per kilo.
Friday sales continue weekly for bullocks, heifers and dry cows. Special spring sale of bullocks (also heifers and dry cows) – tomorrow (Friday), February 10th at 11 am with 22 pens on offer.

Special sale of springers on Saturday, February 25th at 12 noon – bookings now being accepted.

Sheep Sale – Wednesday (8th): We had a larger entry of sheep this week. There was a better trade for the finished hoggets with hoggets making as high as €105. The trade for cast ewes was similar to the previous week. We had a large entry of in-lamb ewes this week and we had a full clearance. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Sheep scanning service commenced this week and takes place every Wednesday from 9 am to 10 am.
