Castlerea Thursday, April 19th There were 1100 cattle on offer and prices were maintained for all classes of stock on offer. Bullocks, heifers and dry cows remained a very strong trade, and a bigger turnout of weanlings also met a lively trade while the trade for quality suckler cows and suck calves also remained strong. Bullocks: Bl Lim 525 kgs €1,002, Ch 570 kgs €1,050. Heifers: Lim 500 kgs €870, Lim 430 kgs €750, AA 485 kgs €810, Ch 360 kgs €650, Ch 565 kgs €980, Lim 490 kgs €1,060. AA 540 kgs €1,025. Dry cows: Ch 615 kgs €870, AA 680 kgs €935, Fr 665 kgs €765, AA 650 kgs €750, Fr 530 kgs €555, Bl Her 525 kgs €555, AA 640 kgs €790. Cows with calves at foot made from €850 to €1,560 per head. Springer cows made from €580 to €1,280 per head. Weanlings: There were over 500 weanlings on offer with bulls making from €250 to €600 over and weanling heifers making from €250 to €350 over their weight. Suck calves: 100 suck calves on offer, with very good demand for the quality lots. Top price of €625 paid for a quality Ch bull. Sheep Prices: lambs 45 kgs €92.50, 45 kgs €90, 55 kgs €92.50, Ewes on offer made from €35.70 to €57 per head. Please note that the yard opens on Thursday mornings at 7.30 am and farmers are advised to come early to have all stock penned by 10 am.   Roscommon Friday, April 20th There was an excellent trade for all classes of cattle, with 925 cattle on offer. There was a number of good quality bullocks for the special continental sale with some very fancy prices paid. Heifer numbers were smaller due to the big entry for next week’s continental sale.             Heavy bullocks 500 kgs and over made from €270 to €740 over the weight. Prices: Ch 740 kgs €1,390, Ch 575 kgs €1,200, 4 Ch 511 kgs €1,075, Ch 745 kgs €1,470. Store bullocks up to 500 kgs made from €290 over to €500 over. Prices: 8 ch 386 kgs €880, Ch 405 kgs €800, AA 500 kgs €880, 5 Ch 380 kgs €865. Store heifers made from €230 over to €470 over. Prices: Ch 395 kgs €760, Sim 350 kgs €650, Lim 465 kgs €710, Ch 365 kgs €772. Dry cow made from €550 to €980 per head. Weather hoggets: Ten at 47 kgs €70, ten at 53 kgs €72.50. Stag Ewes: Easier trade to previous week. Prices ranged from €26.50 to €51.50 Ewes with lambs at foot: Five hogget ewes with single lambs at foot €123, three second crop ewes with twin lambs at foot €150. Second crop ewe with twin lambs at foot €135.   Elphin Cattle Wednesday, April 18th 650 cattle were offered for sale at a special bullock and heifer sale. Prices for bullocks ranged from €750 to €1,305. Prices 720 kgs €1,285, 780 kgs €1,305, 760 kgs €1,310, 635 kgs €1,110, 370 kgs €800, 490 kgs €915. Heifers made from €740 kgs to €1,110.
