Roscommon There was a very strong trade for all classes of cattle on Friday last. Numbers were well up on the previous week and there was a clearance of almost 100 percent. On Wednesday at the sheep sale, hogget prices were up slightly, making €28 to €33.50 over for butchers hoggets. Dry ewes were similar to last week, making €30 to 65 per head. Ewes with lambs at foot met a very strong trade, making from  €80 to €160. Eg. Two ewes with four lambs €102, six ewes with 12 lambs €160. Heavy bullocks 500 kgs and over made from €235 to €500 over. Prices: 10 Ch 625 kgs €1,050, Ch 600 kgs €1,058, 5 Ch 636 kgs €1,035, Hol Fr 625 kgs €860. Store bullocks up to 500 kgs made €230 to €440 over. Prices: 2 Ch 500 kgs €940, Ch 500 kgs €910, 2 Ch 373 kgs €722, Ch 485 kgs €900. Store heifers made from €243 to €4409 over. Prices: Sim 475 kgs €815, AA 575 kgs €1,010, Ch 385 kgs €785, AA 3353 kgs €699. Dry cows made from €650 to €1,250 per head. Prices: Sim 735 kgs €930, Sim 885 kgs €1,250, Ch 735 kgs €1,015, AA 605 kgs €650. Castlerea There were 390 cattle on offer. Quality store cattle in particular met a very lively trade with a large attendance of buyers present. The weanling trade also met a lively trade, with farmers and exporters anxious for quality lots. Bullocks: Lim 565 kgs €1,030, Ch 520 kgs €990, Ch 470 kgs €912, Ch 560 kgs €1,020, Red Lim 420 kgs €810, Fr 530 kgs €800. B. Lim 380 kgs €720. Heifers: AA 505 kgs €855, Ch 520 kgs €900, Ch 445 kgs €820, B. Blue 425 kgs €977, B. Her 460 kgs €770, AA 485 kgs €885. Dry cows: Fr. 585 kgs €665, Sim 635 kgs €780, AA 730 kgs €787, R. Lim 510 kgs €682, AA 655 kgs €810, AA 365 kgs €470. Cows with calves at foot made from €765 to €1,360 per head. Springer cows made from €655 to €1,210 per head. Suck calves: Ch bull €260, AA heifer €237. Weanling bulls made from €250 to €430 over their weight, while heifers made from €200 to €430 over.  Horse sale on Saturday, February 16th: All horses must have an identification documents. Mountbellew Cattle: There was a brisk trade for all lots on offer, with an especially strong trade for quality lots of bull and heifer weanlings. Prices: Lim bull weanling 2007, 360 kgs €705, Ch bull weanling 2007 380 kgs €680, Lim bullock 2006 460 kgs €810, Lim bullock 2006 450 kgs €800, Ch bullock 485 kgs €815, Red Lim springing heifer 2006, due to calf to Limousin bull in February, €1,220, Black Lim springing heifer 2006, due to calf to Lim bull in March, €1,160, Ch weanling heifer 2007, 285 kgs €600, two Hereford weanling heifers 2007, 235 kgs €540, two Lim heifers 2006, 450 kgs €825. Sheep: The number of sheep on offer was smaller than the previous week, but the trade was similar, with good demand for factory and butchers hoggets. Hoggets: 12 hoggets at 40 kgs €60.50, 12 hoggets at 53 kgs €85, 20 hoggets at 48 kgs €80, five hoggets at 43 kgs €65, 11 hoggets at 50 kgs €81, 15 hoggets at 47.5 kgs €77, ten hoggets at 41 kgs €72. Stag ewes were a similar trade to the previous week and prices ranged from €35 to €56. Breeding ewes: Ten second crop ewes running with rams since September made €93.
