Castlerea Mart Report
There were 520 cattle on offer at our last sale for 2016 and trade finished on a very bright note with all three rings reporting a very lively trade. Heifers in particular were in strong demand while the weanlings – both bulls and heifers –were much sought after, with a flying trade reported. Big numbers of dry cows met a firm trade and breeding stock also experienced an improvement in prices.
Sample prices – heifers: Lm 380kgs €1090, Ch 405kgs €1065, BBx 455kgs €1215, Ch 460kgs €1220, Ch 580kgs €1570, Lm 540kgs €1365.
Bullocks: Ch 520kgs €1100, Ch 490kgs €1115, Lm 385kgs €850.
Dry cows: Ch 970kgs €1675, Lm 825kgs €1470, AA 780kgs €1395, Sim 630kgs €1100.
Cows with calves at foot made from €975 to €1900 for a Limousin cow and her heifer calf at foot. Springer cows made from €800 to €1410 per head.
Calves: Dairy calves made from €20 to €70 per head while runners made from €200 to €615 per head.
Weanling bulls – quality lots made from €2.50 to €3.30 per kilo. Sample prices: Ch 275kgs €900, Lm 270kgs €790, BBx 260kgs €760, Ch 320kgs €1090, Ch 350kgs €1050, Lm 340kgs €1045.
Weanling heifers – quality lots made from €2.40 to €3.41 per kilo. Sample prices: Lm 280kgs €780, Ch 250kgs €745, Sim 360kgs €1135, Ch 360kgs €1070, Ch 310kgs €1060.
