Man charged with Sligo murders remanded in custody

A man charged with the recent murder of two men in Sligo town was further remanded in custody until May 12th at Sligo District Court on Thursday last.

  Yousef Palani (22) of Markievicz Heights, Sligo town, appeared via video link from Castlerea Prison.

  The accused is charged with the murder of Aidan Moffitt at 4 Carton Heights, Sligo on April 10th and with the murder of Michael Snee at 24 City View Apartments, Sligo on April 12th. The defendant is facing a separate charge of assault causing harm to a man in Sligo on April 9th.

  Mr. Palani’s solicitor, Gerry McGovern, told Judge Sandra Murphy that no bail application was being made “at this time”. The court also heard that the defendant was receiving psychiatric treatment while in prison.

  Judge Murphy, who had granted the accused legal aid in relation to the assault charge, also assigned Mr. McGovern on Thursday in relation to the two murder charges.
