A 30-year-old Sudanese man charged with attempted murder following Monday night’s attack in north Belfast has appeared in court.
The attacker has been named as Hadi Alodid, of Duncairn Avenue, Belfast. He appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court by video link on Wednesday.
He is charged with the attempted murder of a man following a brutal knife attack in the Kinnaird Avenue area of the city on Monday night.
The court heard that the injured man sustained severe injuries, including facial and neck injuries, back lacerations and the loss of his left eye.
Police had earlier described the incident as a serious assault involving a knife, which left the victim with significant injuries to his face, neck and back.
The court heard that the injured man remains in hospital.
As well as attempted murder, Alodid is also facing charges of possessing a knife in a public place and making threats to kill.
The case was adjourned until July 8, when it is due to return before Belfast Magistrates’ Court.
