Man charged over Sligo murders set to appear in court today

A 22-year-old man charged with murdering two men and assaulting a third will appear before Sligo District Court via video link today (Thursday 21st) after he was remanded in custody at a special sitting of the court last Thursday.

  Yousef Palani of 10 Markievicz Heights, Sligo appeared in court charged with the murder of Roscommon native Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee in the town last week.

  His solicitor, Gerard McGovern, had asked that the accused be psychiatrically assessed. The accused also faces a charge of assault causing serious harm to Anthony Burke.

  Palani was detained in the early hours of Wednesday morning (13th) following the discovery of Michael Snee’s body. Mr. Snee had been subjected to a “serious physical assault and had suffered significant injuries” according to Garda Supt. Aidan Glacken.

  Mr. Moffitt’s body had been discovered at his home in Cartron Heights at around 8.30 pm on Monday evening, 11th of April. He had also sustained “significant injuries”, according to Gardaí.
