Last Thursday, October 19th, Gardaí seized over €35,000 of suspected cannabis along with a sum of cash during a search conducted as part of Operation Tara in County Roscommon.
The search was conducted at a residence at Annaghmore in Kilteevan by Gardaí from the Roscommon/Longford Drug Unit, with assistance by Gardaí from Roscommon, the Garda Dog Unit and the Armed Support Unit, North Western Region. During the course of this search, approximately €32,000 of suspected cannabis along with €3,200 of suspected cannabis plants and €1,600 of cash was seized by Gardaí.
Following the search, two men (both aged in their late 40s) were arrested as part of the investigation and detained at a Garda station in County Roscommon under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
One of the men was then charged and appeared before a sitting of Castlerea District Court last Friday, October 20th. The second man arrested as part of the investigation was released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
