#lovefreeparking in Roscommon Town!

Cllr. Orla Leyden, Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council has called on local businesses to keep parking for customers in order to encourage the use of free car parking in Roscommon Town and throughout the country.

Launching the new #lovefreeparking – Keep Roscommon Moving campaign this week, Cllr. Leyden said it was all about creating awareness  of the value of free parking to Roscommon.

She thanked John Mockler, Area Co-ordinator, Roscommon Municipal District for providing six green one hour parking spaces in Roscommon Town.

“The green one hour parking spaces are working really well and are helping to keep business flowing and thus spending in retail up in the town.  We are fortunate to have an ample supply of excellent off-street parking in Roscommon town that could be used by people that need to park all day.

“The Progressive approach by Roscommon County Council to retain Free Parking throughout the County has been very advantageous to towns in the County with people travelling from surrounding counties to shop in Roscommon and avail of our welcoming free parking thus supporting the local economy.

Tom Madden, a butcher based on Main Street said: “Keep Roscommon Moving, keep jobs in town. This is a great town, we have everything. Keep parking for customers and make it even better.”

Owner of Klassic Cleaners on Church Street, Liam Stephens highlighted the need to reserve spaces on the streets of Roscommon Town for those who need them.

“We are unique in this county and this privilege has to be respected and kept moving for all our customers especially people who are only trying to make quick purchases or for people who aren’t as well able to get around.

“Roscommon has many great independent shops and vibrant main shopping areas but easy parking is essential. This means people who work in these areas should be encouraged to use the many great car parks only two minutes’ walk from the streets”.
