Lollipops Children’s Festival underway at Arts Centre

Roscommon Arts Centre’s annual Lollipops Children’s Festival kicks off this Saturday and runs right throughout October.

It’s a jam-packed programme of events for ages 2–12 with everything from arts and craft, theatre, workshops, music, film and visual art.

The arts centre welcomes families, primary schools, crèches and pre-schools to join in the fun this month with a selection of weekend and evening shows for families and lots of morning and afternoon events taking place for school groups and crèches.

Some of the highlights for children include SHH! We Have A Plan on Wednesday 21st October which is a family show taking place at 5 pm for ages 4–8. It tells the story of some madcap characters that have a plan to capture a beautiful bird perched high in a tree! This enchanting tale is filled with music, puppetry and lots more and is perfect for families.

Another unmissable family event is Paper Bubbles at 5 pm on Wednesday 28th October for ages 3–10. It’s a dynamic and magical performance combining dance, music and lots of bubbles!!

There are plenty of workshops taking place throughout the month to keep your little ones busy including a Lantern Making Workshop on Saturday 10th October with Tom Meskell who is renowned for his creations with the Galway Macnas parades. Following that, Anna Spearman will be on hand on Tuesday 27th October with a workshop to help make those very important Halloween Masks!

The Art School exhibition runs from the 16th in the arts centre gallery. This is a collaboration between artists Rhona Byrne, Vanessa Donoso Lopez, Nollaig Molly and Breda Coyne and the pupils of Gaelscoil de hIde and Scoil Mhuire to create an installation which will transform the gallery.

The fun begins this Saturday where there will be face-painting, arts and crafts and lots more taking place in the arts centre foyer from 1 pm onwards.
