Locals into three All-Irelands

Roscommon handballers are through to three All-Ireland finals in the ladies competitions. Lauren O’Riordan of St. Comans won the U-15 singles semi-final. She beat Denise Doyle of Kilkenny 21/8, 21/11. Lauren will now play Aine Casey of Kerry in the final this weekend at a Munster venue.    Marianna Rushe will play Niamh Murphy in the minor final while Hilary Rushe has qualified for the junior singles final on the weekend of Oct. 20/21 when she will play Lisa Falvey of Kerry.   In the U-21 doubles semi-final Chris Doolin and Niall Gordon of St. Comans were pipped 21/20, 21/19 by Wexford in a thrilling semi-final. In the U-15 doubles Darren Beatty and Cian Connolly were beaten by two games to one by Kilkenny in the semi-final. They put up a brilliant show but were just beaten after a titantic struggle.   In the Diamond A singles Noel Raftery lost to Paddy Reilly of Kilkenny and Anthony O’Donnell gave a walkover to Michael ‘Duxie’  Walsh of Kilkenny.   Fixtures: Sat. 6th October: U-21 singles Michael Berry (Wexford) v Christopher Doolin (St. Comans). Junior Singles semi final-Lorcan Maughan(Roscommon) will play Ian Griffin( Dublin) in Croke Park at 2pm on Sunday. Ladies Minor Doubles- Sunday 7th October-M Rushe and L Doolin(Roscommon) v N Murphy and F Holohan(Waterford) this game may be reschduled. Masters B Doubles- Ronan Galvin/ James Coughlan (Roscommon) v John Leahy/Jimmy Reilly (Meath) Masters A Doubles-Martin Bruen Anthony O Donnell(Roscommon) V Michael Ducksie Walsh and Pat Maher(Kilkenny). All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Singles and Doubles-Katie Costello or Deirdre Donohoe (Roscommon) will play Ashley Prenderville of Kerry in the singles and Deirdre  and Katie will play the doubles on the weekend of the 20/21 October at a venue yet to be decided.
