Local students in European Space Agency competition

Athlone Community College students Michael Brennan, Chinmaya Ashish, Ciarán Lynch Charlie Flynn, and Christian Turean are taking part in CanSat, a European Space Agency competition.

Five Athlone Community College students are taking part in this year’s CanSat, a European Space Agency competition in which schools design, build, and test a mini satellite.

Ciarán Lynch, Christian Turean, Charlie Flynn, Chinmaya Ashish and Michael Brennan are working with TUS Athlone in order to build their satellite.

Speaking to the Roscommon People this week, Michael Brennan, Lecarrow, explained how the project would unfold.

“We are working closely with Technological University of the Shannon to build our satellite. We are going to a launch site and the can will be launched and released from a height,” he said.

“The CanSat must take measurements and transmit data on its journey back down. We are called BALD which stands for Ballistics and Aerodynamics Logistics Division.
