Pride of Place is an all-island competition organised by Co-Operation Ireland and the Local Authorities All-Island Steering Committee. The competition provides an ideal opportunity for community groups to demonstrate their pride in the achievements of their own local community.
Roscommon nominations to the all-island competition are made by Roscommon County Council on the basis of the recent County Roscommon Pride of Place competition. The communities that are being nominated to participate in the 2022 Pride of Place Competition are The Melting Pot Community Society Ltd (Category 7: Community Wellbeing Initiative), the Lisnamult Tenants and Residents Association (Category 12: Urban Neighbourhoods), and Lough Ree Angling Hub (Category 9: Community Tourism Initiative).
Pride of Place is an ideal opportunity for our communities to showcase their local development initiatives and highlight the vast wealth of community contribution to local society. It is a unique competition that emphasises the need for community groups to work together in enhancing their local area and rewards those who demonstrate community co-operation and linkages with public bodies, businesses and agencies.
Judging for the 2022 Pride of Place Competition will take place in August. The Pride of Place judges will conduct a site visit to each community, during which time they will meet with community representatives. The visit will consist of a formal presentation by representatives of the local community, highlighting their achievements and the reasons why they feel they deserve a Pride of Place award. The format of the rest of the visit is up to each individual community but usually includes a short tour of the local area highlighting some locations of specific interest.
Those living in the nominated communities are encouraged to get involved in the preparation for judging. To get involved, contact your local community group for further details.
Roscommon County Council would like to congratulate the nominated communities on their performance in the county competition and wishes them the best of luck in the All-Island Pride of Place competition 2022.
